EndofGame

Some might consider the following in a harsh light given the fact this was penned to break it off with a man with whom I was engaged. (Grand total of 2 weeks and honestly I'm surprised I ever said yes.) I'm not going into details, but in our last argument he called me a pawn.

I returned his ring with the following note.

End of Game

A pawn is what you called me…
Something pretty to be shown.
How unfortunate it is for you
That your pawn has a will of its own.

For a short time you forgot
With whom you did speak
It was without cause you judged me
Careless, selfish, and weak.

Love is not a game to be played
With one turned against the other.
So long as it is so, the one you love
Will always find another.

Now it's time for you to learn
What that lesson can truly cost
For it can be with the turn of a pawn
That a game is won or lost.

So with the return of your ring,
Ends a love brought too close to hate.
Your pawn formally calls it
End of game – CHECKMATE.
