The Sparrow

I have a tradition of creating and/or making presents for my Grandmother since she can, and usually already has, bought everything she could want or need. I'm not really a religious person, but my Grandmother has a lot of faith. I based the following poem off of the below three verses from the book of Matthew in the Bible.

This poem was written in December of 2006 as my Christmas present for my Grandmother.

“Behold the sparrows of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them”.

– Matthew 6.26

“not a sparrow falleth to the ground without your Father. Not one of them is forgotten of Him.”

– Matthew 10.29

“Fear not, therefore.Ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

– Matthew 10.31

Sparrow

Cherished, even unto death.
With every flight you've flown,
How much comfort in the fact
You never flew alone.

Little one, greatly adored
So much are you held dear,
Regardless of circumstance,
You'll never have to fear.

As for me, the most beloved,
I too am treasured.
For the Father sees in me
A worth beyond measure.

So tiny bird, so esteemed,
Share with me your faith
And teach me too to trust in God
With every breath I take.
